Katy Perry ranked number one in Maxim’s Hot 2010 list last week. Maxim’s Hot 2010 list included hot ladies like Zoe Saldana at number three, Megan Fox at number five and Rihanna at number six. Katy’s Perry’s status as the world’s hottest woman according to Maxim’s standards has left some critics baffled. She’s cute but not more than her fellow ladies on the Maxim list. How is Maxim tabulating results of who’s hot and who’s not? Is the list really inclusive of the world’s women?

Maxim’s results seem skewed toward the fair skinned beauties. The 2010 list includes only four black women: Zoe Saldana, Rihanna, Selita Ebanks, and Gabrielle Union. Maxim ranks only eight women with Latino or Brazilian ancestry on their list of the world’s hottest women. Over 80% of Maxim’s list are white women. With these stats, does the Maxim Hot 2010 list truly cover the world’s hottest women? Or, is there a section of the world that the magazine tends to focus on? Of the Latino and Brazilians included on the list is the sweet and savory Sofia Vergara who boldly boasts: “I’m the most downloaded Latina woman in America.” Joining Ms. Vergara are stars like Eva Mendes, Victoria Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio and Arianny Celeste. Maxim’s list doesn’t include any Asian women. Navi Rawat who is half Indian and half German would be the closest to Asian that the list could boast along with Arianny Celeste, who is mixed with Latino and Asian ancestry.

Future polling results should certainly include a more diverse group of women. Katy Perry’s most prominent feature is her pale white skin. She’s like Snow White with a Barbie makeover. If I were going to kiss a girl on the Maxim Hot 2010 list “just to try it”, it wouldn’t be Katy Perry. Esquire magazine chose a similar pale beauty, Christina Hendricks as their number one hottest woman. With Christina Hendricks, it could be chalked up to her curves. The Katy Perry verdict seems unfounded. She is not hotter than Scarlet Johannsen at number 14, Mila Kunis at number 22 or Nicole Sherzinger at 24. If they wanted a pale pretty face, they could have opted for South American actresses Ana Belena or Claudia Alvarez. The Maxim ideal of beauty has yet to truly include all women of the world. The Hot 2010 needs fine tuning indeed.
